Rhodonite - Old Stock
Rhodonite is a manganese-iron-magnesium-calcium silicate that is mainly pink in color. However, when it oxidizes, a jet-black crust forms around the stone. Which can make it difficult to recognize. The mineral forms in both Igneous and Metamorphic rocks.
This is Rhodonite from an old Lapidary collection, and unfortunately it is not known where the stone came from. The colors in this cabochon are very varied. A deep pink vein in the middle and light pink to brown colors on the sides.
