Fluorite - France

This beam-shaped cabochon of purple Fluorite comes from Bois le Duc in the French Ardennes. The location is an old, no longer active Fluorite quarry/mine where the mining waste was also dumped. Nowadays the location is closed and searches are no longer allowed. Fluorite was found in different colors, with purple and green being the most common. 

This Fluorite has different purple shades throughout the stone, from dark to light. It is a beam-shaped cabochon and the sides of the beam are rounded. What is not clearly visible in the photo is the reflection. When you move the stone back and forth, the light from the reflection bounces across the surface of the stone.
