The mineral ludwigite is a uncommon magnesium-iron-borate with the chemical formula Mg2Fe3+(BO3)O2. Ludwigite forms massive units, and rarely as prismatic crystals. In addition, also long gray to black needle-shaped crystals, which is also the case with this specimen. The matrix of this specimen probably consists of quartz.
