Pietersite - Namibia

The mineral Pietersite was discovered in 1962 in Outjo, a small town somewhere in Namibia. This place, together with a place in China, appears to be the only place in the world where Pietersite can be found. Pietersite is a variant of Chalcedony with thin fibers and it has a beautiful blue shine. This blue is often alternated with a rusty brown color that forms a very nice contrast. It is therefore not surprising that this mineral is often processed as a cabochon/gemstone. The prices for Pietersite are now also gem-worthy because Pietersite often sells for € 300 per kilo at fairs these days! I decided to keep these two pieces as specimens and not process them into a cabochon. Hopefully other collectors can also enjoy this beautiful mineral in this way.
